Chopin - Prelude in A major Op 28 No 7 arranged for String Quartet
Although Frederic Chopin composed music almost entirely for solo piano, many of his works lend themselves to being performed on other instruments. This arrangement is a good example, where the strings create a different texture from that of the piano, adding a new dimension to the music and bringing the enjoyment of playing Chopin's piano music into the domain of string players.
Carl Mikuli's edition of Chopin's Preludes provided the source for this arrangement, owing to its accuracy and faithfulness to the composer's original score. The tempo mark, added by the arranger, is based on a performance by the legendary pianist Artur Rubinstein, renowned for his interpretations of Chopin's piano music. Bowing marks and other technical directions have been left to the discretion, expertise and preference of the individual performer.
